Social Democratic Leadership Election Inconclusive

For the first time ever in the history of any Demarcian political party, the Social Democratic Party's leadership election will be heading off into a second round as none of the three candidates, neither the incumbent GeorgeChambers, nor Jeskia, nor Brandin, have won a majority of the vote.

The first round of the leadership election had a substantially lower turnout than the April leadership election; turnout fell from 21.88% to as low as 12.90%. The leadership election does not seem to have attracted broader interest within the party or in Demarcia.

The dreams of Brandin, the longtime head of the Government Protection Service, of becoming the leader of the Social Democrats were dashed as the party's Secretary Penstubal broke a tie between him and Jeskia in favour of the latter politician, the current Second Vice President and the party's Deputy Leader, citing Jeskia having registered her candidacy before Brandin as the reason for doing so.

It remains to be seen what the outcome of this leadership election will be, Jeskia's second attempt to bring down a Social Democratic Party leader.
