The Social Democratic Party appears to be on the edge of a split as members of the party are not able to reconcile their differences, more immediately over the Speaker and Prime Minister appointments, but more generally over the crisis plaguing the party for months now.
The party is reportedly set to split in two unless currently ongoing talks finally manage to bring a sense of unity back to the suffering political party, the most active party in Demarcia's political history, founded on 3 April 2017 and potentially set to be split right in time for the 6th anniversary of its creation.
"Members of the party are really upset at each other. This is what I can tell you" an anonymous source from inside the party tells the Inquirer. "Some people are saying - enough, we've had it, there's been too much disloyalty, too much bitching about Jeskia's impeachment and the Hylix war, and we want out, and we're taking everything with us."
It appears that Penstubal, the SDP's Secretary, is trying to keep the party together but so far has been unable to convince members who are highly upset about the way the party has been functioning (or rather, not functioning) over the past few months.
The fight within the party has reached its most dramatic phase and is about to culminate with either an explosive divorce or a permanent peace established, and no inbetween. The latter option, furthermore, is seemingly becoming impossible.
It is unclear as of yet what the consequences of the party splintering would be. The Social Democratic Party will likely not officially die yet - but if the party splits, there's a serious possibility it could after the next election.
