The Social Democratic Party has approved wide-ranging reforms to the Party's organisation in their first conference in over two years.
Seven resolutions and one motion have been voted on, many of them with debates, in the lengthy party conference. Among the reforms that have been approved are:
1) replacing the Committee with a National Executive;
2) loosening requirements for leadership candidacies;
3) limiting leadership challenges to one per month;
4) allowing the removal of the Party Secretary through the National Executive;
5) establishing the position of Party Chair;
6) introducing primaries for parliamentary elections;
7) setting up the office of the SDP Parliamentary Leader;
8) creating local affiliates of the party.
Members also gave speeches at the conference. Brandin, about to be officially appointed Chair of the party, gave a brief speech promising to be an adviser to the party's new leader, Jeskia, stating that he is "confident we will win together".
In his speech, Secretary Penstubal talked about the party's history, saying that although it went through many transformations, it always remained true to its values of liberty, justice and solidarity. "We have democratised our system more than ever before", Penstubal said proudly, touting reforms including that to his own position.
Penstubal proclaimed 19 November 2022 to be "the beginning of the return of the People's Party, as a brand New and Regenerated People's Party!". He further proclaimed that "come 17 December, Demarcia will be red again!".
In her first major speech as Leader, Jeskia, who had been introduced by Brandin as "The Lady with a plan, the Lady on a mission for a better Demarcia!", touted the SDP's history of having elected two women presidents and one black president. She warned the politicians of Demarcia that "it's time for us to get off our asses and bring progress to Demarcia".
She further added that the party's governments in Dodoville and Arbourdon will begin investing in the two cities with the help of the Social Democratic mayors, Brandin and Vincent_Wolff. Furthermore, she touted Brandin's appointment as Party Chair.
Her speech had several bizarre moments. At some point, she declared that "the CUP party [sic] laughed at you, citizens of Demarcia, when we lost the last election; they didn't want the People's Party to succeed" and, a moment later, proceeded to shout at SuperMiron, standing in the gallery in a weird outfit, telling him to "shut your bitch turtle neck ass up before I fuck you up".
Still, the party conference, which finished with the party's secretary singing The Internationale with the whole Conference standing up, is considered by members of the party to have been a resounding success. It remains to be seen whether it will convince voters that the SDP is fit for government again.
