President Jake has officially entered into office and a "national unity agreement" has reportedly been reached between the new president and Penstubal and MikeBodwin - some of the country's most powerful and influential individuals.
This agreement, reportedly an informal agreement between individuals rather than parties, is to form the basis of the new government. It is set to be officially published and signed tomorrow by the three parties to the agreement - Jake, Penstubal and MikeBodwin.
According to the agreement, whose details have been leaked to the Demarcian Inquirer, MikeBodwin will assume the office of Prime Minister, while Penstubal would be Deputy Prime Minister. JeskiaWeathers is planned to become Speaker of the Parliament.
Meanwhile, the signatories of the agreement commit to the full implementation of Jake's pre-election program. Other members of the new government will also be expected to follow the promises made in Jake's program, including his planned reforms to the National Security Council.
MikeBodwin's mayoral run will be tolerated, but, should a "better option" for Mayor of Dodoville be agreed to, MikeBodwin shall renounce his candidacy or, if he had already become mayor, resign the mayoralty so as to allow snap elections at which the "better option" would be the government's endorsed candidate for the position of Mayor of Dodoville.
Most notably, an agreement has been reached regarding nuclear weapons. The agreement says that the government "commits to denuclearization". Land and air will be eliminated from the nuclear triad and a maximum of 100 warheads will be legal for the government to be produce; the government will set a legal target of 50 warheads by the end of the year, with the final step of the elimination of nuclear weapons being implemented when an alternative is found, after which the government will have three months to eliminate nuclear weapons.
Violations of agreement will result in the violator's removal from government, as opposed to the cancellation of the agreement.
The "national unity agreement", the first of its kind in the history of the country, is expected to shape the course of Demarcia for the months to come. President Jake privately has expressed hopes that his government would be the "best government that Demarcia has seen to date", in his words. Only time will tell whether it will be so.
