Penstubal, the Secretary of the Social Democratic Party, has announced he will be mounting an independent bid for the Presidency, seeking an eighth, non-consecutive term in office.

His announcement also came with his relevation that President nilah. will not be seeking re-election to a second term. In his statement, Penstubal praised her as a "decent, honorable individual" and expressed sadness that "circumstances [weren't] right for her to have had a prosperous administration". He says that nilah. was " very disappointed by the lack of success our administration has had" and that she "feels personal blame for it".

With his presidential bid, Penstubal hopes to provide Demarcia "at least some form of elected leadership over the next few months" and to "secure at least somewhat favorable conditions for the resuscitation of Demarcia in the upcoming year". In the statement, he also announced he would be leaving the Social Democratic Party and forming a "Government of National Equilibrium".

Penstubal thanked members of his party for "all the support and good times you have given me over the years". He expressed his gratitude for having been a member, touted it for having "transformed Demarcia and given it its golden age in the form of Bold Ideas, Real Change", and said he would remain Secretary of the party "to ensure your affairs are managed with respect for the views expressed by party members".

For his presidential candidacy to be registered, Penstubal needs at least two individuals to support him, which, he says, he has been "assured he will get."
