Penstubal Announces Formation of New Political Party, Action 2022

Penstubal has officially announced his intention to form a brand new political party, Action 2022, following a disastrous election night result for the Social Democratic Party and Penstubal's own parliamentary election defeat.

Leading up to his announcement, Penstubal praised the Social Democratic Party and its purpose.

"This is a party that I have been a proud member of ever since it was created in April 2017. Indeed, I was a founding member of this party. This party is like my child to me. This party is the product of my work towards a better, more free and more just Demarcia. Liberty, justice and solidarity have always been the party's foundational values, and I am proud of the movement we have built."

However, shortly afterwards, he turned towards a scathing criticism of the party in its current state.

"For the first time ever in the party's history since its great rebranding in January 2020, the party has received fewer than 50% of the popular vote. The Demarcian National Party, a, frankly, backwards political party, is on the rise, and the Green Party, an overly militarist political party, is on the rise.

The Social Democratic Party, meanwhile, has been stagnant for a long while now. This is not anything new. However, Jeskia's leadership, the divisions during GeorgeChambers's leadership, and now this election under Brandin, have hastened the party's decline."

Penstubal has eviscerated the current leadership of the party.

"At the moment, the party is not living up to its purpose of being a movement for all those who want a better Demarcia to live in.

The party appears old, wrinkled and weary (...) The progressive movement is vibrant and still alive, but the party is not.

This is why the party is facing a difficult choice. Either change direction entirely and transform yourself entirely, or get out of the way and die, and let the movement live on. I do not have confidence in the current leadership to successfully do the right thing, for the party and the country."

Penstubal went on to announce the creation of a new political party, Action 2022, which he said would be "a party of the future, not the past", "a party of innovation, not stagnation" and "a party to unite Demarcia, not divide Demarcia".

"It will be a party of the radical centre, of the mainstream of Demarcian politics. It will bring together Demarcians of all political stripes, whether they are socialists, or liberals, or conservatives, or greens. It will be the progressive choice, for a better Demarcia and a better world."

He invited citizens to support him in his efforts to establish a new political party, although he said he will not follow through in the end unless he gains significant support for his idea. Already, support is coming in, however, and several politicians from inside the ailing Social Democratic Party have expressed their support for creating a new political party to represent the country's progressive movement.
