nilah. Elected President; MikeBodwin only MP after SDP Debacle

nilah., the Leader of the Social Democratic Party, has been elected President, and MikeBodwin the country's only Member of Parliament, in the single most bizarre election in Demarcian political history, marked with a seismic "fuck up".

Though the Demarcian Inquirer cannot confirm whether this speculation is based on any facts, some are speculating that the SDP completely forgot an election was taking place and forgot to vote in the elections. There were three SDP candidates, and none of them garnered even a single vote. One vote for MikeBodwin was the only parliamentary election vote, thus making the Civic Unity Party the only party in Parliament. To make matters even more bizarre, MikeBodwin himself said he didn't vote in the election.

On the presidential side of things, nilah. garnered only one vote for president - down from the last election, when she got 2 votes to 3 for MarcoDeVore. It is currently unknown who voted for nilah., but nilah. confirmed she did not vote in the election. Oddly enough, earlier in the day, she had actually issued a statement urging people to come out and vote, leading some to wonder why she herself didn't vote in the end.

In any case, Demarcia is now in its most unusual political situation in history, where the SDP remains the ruling party of Demarcia thanks to the election of nilah., despite not having any representation in Parliament, and where the CUP, despite having the only seat in Parliament, will not be part of a new government, according to its leader MikeBodwin.

Had just one person voted for the SDP in this election, the SDP would have not only remained in Parliament but would likely have a parliamentary majority, albeit slightly reduced. Instead, the most unexpected thing possible happened.

After the election, Penstubal pinned all the blame on himself and claimed that he and his fellow SDP members forgot the election was even taking place. Sources tell the Demarcian Inquirer that Penstubal felt very unwell after the election results and was "heartbroken" by the party's parliamentary results.

Still, nilah., despite the parliamentary election debacle, tried to strike a positive note. The day after the election, she thanked "those who voted for me and supported me in this election", expressing her hope that the nation "could unite together to celebrate a new chapter in our country's elaborate, diverse, and vibrant history". She offered words of praise for President MarcoDeVore, under whom she has served as Prime Minister. She said that "there will be a lot of changes implemented in my term, which will be listed in detail once I am sworn in officially".

The election had the lowest turnout in Demarcian history, at just 0.67%, down substantially from the 3.36% the last time around, when there were four more voters. The parliamentary election had the highest number of candidates who received zero votes, after the November 2020 election, which had as many as six candidates with zero votes.
