In a major blow to the governing Civic Unity Party, Vincent_Wolff, Member of Parliament and Former President of Demarcia, is leaving the CUP according to Penstubal.

Penstubal hailed Vincent_Wolff as a "courgeous stateswoman" and a "fighter, not a quitter". He also said that Vincent_Wolff "was one of the big three in the SDP of 2020". "Her return means a return to the social democratic values of our heyday", he added, "It means a return to an SDP before 2021 and 2022, and ushering in a brand new, revived and rejuvenated People's Party at the turn of the year".

Penstubal described Vincent_Wolff as "never having changed her fundamental core values, which are a genuine belief that our country's success hinges on guaranteeing equality of opportunity and fostering an innovative, entrepreneurial spirit, something the Social Democratic Party is very much aligned with".

He added that Vincent_Wolff's return to the SDP "exemplifies the return of the SDP as the big tent national unity party at the centre of the people's concerns, with a boldly progressive agenda for the country".

"Crises are facing us left and right, up and down, from all sides imaginable", Penstubal continued in his evening statement, "Enough with partisan squabbling. It's time for MikeBodwin to do things. When he renounces his accusation from June that the SDP had ran dictatorial governments, I will reannounce my description of him as MikeStalin, which is more about the fact that he desires power and control rather than the way his government actually works. Because his government, really, is an incompetent mess, and there's not much else to be said about it."

On her part, Vincent_Wolff confirmed Penstubal's announcement, saying that she "always believed in the values of the CUP", but that "I now realize that the way the CUP is attempting to implement those values isn't good, and isn't working". She said that MikeBodwin has failed to give the country a much needed national regeneration, and that the CUP must be thrown out of office.

She stated that, although "the party had lost its way in 2021", the SDP is the only party in the country today that offers good governance. She added that it is "not so much that I am leaving the CUP, as the CUP has left me", and expressed that she wasn't joining the SDP out of ideology but out of a "sincere belief that our country needs stable leadership".

"Time is up for the CUP", she said, "They've had around four months in office now, they've been elected for two terms. They've not done much of significance, and Demarcia is more dead than ever. Our survival depends on getting the CUP out of office".

It is unclear whether the SDP's fortunes will revive in the coming months thanks to Vincent_Wolff's return to the SDP fold. However, what's clear is that this is a major and dramatic blow to the governing party, which now has 2 out of 3 seats in Parliament. Vincent_Wolff's departure raises the prospect of more defections from the CUP.
