MikeBodwin Proposes Penstubal's Impeachment; Move Divides Nation

Minister of Defence and Foreign Affairs MikeBodwin has proposed the impeachment of President Penstubal. The minister, also serving as Member of Parliament, cited the President's "utilizing the Presidential Palace for an erratic political rally that fell short of upholding the dignity and responsibilities of his position" as the reason for the motion.

This comes just days after the President's controversial use of the Presidential Palace to announce the suspension of his re-election campaign and his surprising endorsement of JeskiaWeathers. His behavior during the press conference was described as "erratic" and his use of the Presidential Palace to praise his preferred presidential candidate as "unprofessional" and a "violation of political norms", as it looked like a campaign speech on governmental grounds.

The President immediately fired back against MikeBodwin's impeachment notion, calling it a "blatantly political and unjustified impeachment motion" and an abuse of "an important constitutional mechanism for his own personal power play shenanigans". He warned MikeBodwin that the resolution, should he not withdraw it, would "disastrously backfire" on him.

"Frankly, I am near the end of my political career. Even if I do get impeached, I don't care," the President said. "I am satisfied with my legacy as the most transformative President of our history. I find it ridiculous that is willing to make such a brainless and irresponsible decision, one that hurts him and the country more than it hurts me, just because he can't wait two weeks for me to leave office."

Reactions in the country appear to be divided. JeskiaWeathers, the presidential candidate and leader of the Demarcian Avantgarde, a new party she founded with Penstubal, defended the President and called the impeachment process a "waste of time". While conceding that the President has "behavioral problems", she said that "we will have a new president-elect within the next 4 days" and that MikeBodwin, also serving as Speaker of the Parliament, should instead "be worried about getting Parliament in order."

Vincent_Wolff, who was Penstubal's closest ally during his 2020 presidency, also denounced MikeBodwin's impeachment motion. Vincent_Wolff said that he was "fully against this chicanery", saying that it wasn't "at all like the attempted impeachment of Jeskia from January 2023, which I supported. Because Jeskia started an illegal war. The worst thing that Penstubal had done was behaving erratically at a press conference."

Despite opposition from some prominent figures, the impeachment appears likely to go ahead. The only three members of Parliament are Penstubal, MikeBodwin and his Civic Unity Party colleague Viscosity777, the presidential candidate and leader of the party. Unless Penstubal can win over Viscosity777 to his side, it appears likely that the President will go down in history as the first in Demarcian history ever to be impeached.
