MarcoDeVore, currently the sole candidate for the Social Democratic Party's leadership, has been accused of generating his interview answers using ChatGPT, including by ChatGPT itself, which called his responses "polished and generalized" and exhibiting "characteristics typical of AI-generated content".
MarcoDeVore today delivered an interview that has been described as "highly repetitive", "unspecific" and "formulaic". Laura Cooper, who conducted the interview, told her colleagues that "this smelt a lot like ChatGPT" and that she only chose not to call him out on it during the interview because "he's the politician running for a leadership position. He knows what he's doing. If he wishes to embarrass himself, he may".
We ran his answers through GPTZero, a website that can very reliably detect whether a text is the product of ChatGPT or not. The website told us that it is "highly confident that this text was AI generated", putting it at 100% probability.
Upon receiving this information, Penstubal called out MarcoDeVore and demanded he "publicly explained himself and, if the software was correct, publicly apologized for utilizing ChatGPT's services to give answers for him, not just to trim the edges of his answers, but to create them entirely by itself". Penstubal says that "such behavior is unacceptable from somebody who wishes to become leader of the Social Democratic Party" and "severely damages MarcoDeVore's credibility".
This accusation puts in jeopardy MarcoDeVore's bid to become leader of the SDP. Currently, he is the sole leadership candidate, but sources tell the Inquirer that the party is working on ensuring he is "not without opposition in the race".
