Jeskia has announced she is officially not running for a second term as President of Demarcia, officially setting in stage her resignation as the Social Democratic Party's leader. Shortly afterwards, Brandin announced that he will be running for President of Demarcia, triggering a leadership contest within the SDP that is expected to end up with him as the only candidate.

Jeskia has not publicly clarified the reason why she will not be running for another term as President, although privately, she has confided to her party members that she has become overwhelmed with work to do and would not be able to carry out her duties properly in her second term.

Brandin, the former Minister - Secretary of the Cabinet, is likely to become the new leader of the Social Democratic Party. Brandin is a person who has been a name in Demarcian politics for quite a while now - however, few expected him to climb up in ranks to the point of possibly becoming the leader of Demarcia's largest political party, as well as its presidential candidate.

Brandin faces the uphill challenge of reinvigorating his party, as well as the coalition with the Green Party, after months of stagnation, in the case of his party, and weeks of tensions, in the case of the coalition.
