Jeskia, the leader of the Social Democratic Party, has announced a surprise alliance with MikeBodwin, the acting leader of the Green Party, which would see MikeBodwin appointed as the new Vice President in the event of a Jeskia victory in the November 2021 presidential election.
In her statement, she stated her reasoning for picking MikeBodwin as her Vice Presidential candidate, saying that it "comes from his knowledge of the military and foreign issues, while [she] is strongest in domestic issues", and hoped that this agreement will be able to bring the SDP and the Greens together and fix Demarcia once and for all.
Virtually nobody on the Demarcian political scene or in the media expected this announcement. Jeskia and MikeBodwin have slowly started to become one of the fiercest rivalries in Demarcian politics - and sources close to both people inform the Inquirer that, just in the last few days alone, their attitudes towards each other were far from amicable and were even bordering on hostile.
However, the two influential politicians, with this agreement, might have opened up a new era in the history of Demarcia. With this agreement, the SDP and the Greens are brought back together - and old wounds from the summer of 2021 have now almost completely been healed.
It remains to be seen what the true and full outcome of this agreement between the two will be, as well as whether the SDP will approve any government coalition between their party and the Greens (the Statute of the SDP requires that the party's Presidium and Committee give a strong vote of approval for any potential coalition). It is without doubt, however, that the agreement is historic, and could lead to an even stronger alliance between the parties sometime in the future.
