Jake, former Deputy Prime Minister, has announced his independent candidacy for President of Demarcia.
In a lengthy announcement, Jake spoke frankly about the state of the country and of the challenges facing it. He spoke of still uncompleted projects started by previous governments, and he spoke of his ideas to resolving the myriad of issues in the country.
Jake made a number of pledges for the country. Among the most important pledges are to construct an apartment block in each city, enact a statute for the University of Demarcia, create another school, finish the Fire Station (an oft-repeated phrase in Demarcian politics), revamp the Building and Public Works Programme, establish event planners, develop state-run and independent media, appoint people to unfilled government agency positions and more.
His most important pledge, however, is one to "recruit an additional 10 citizens to Demarcia every month of my presidency". The last time a politician made such an enormous pledge - Penstubal making a pledge to bring 15 citizens within a month - they had spectacularly failed at fulfilling it.
Running as an independent, with not much activity and with a whole bunch of ideas and plans for bringing them into reality, political analysts say that Jake could be just the man Demarcia needs right now to heal the divides in the country and usher in an age of renewal.
"I think that, right now, if there's anybody people should bet on, it's Jake", an anonymous analyst said, "Jake, Jake, Jake. Say that name again and again. This could be the man who will dominate the country's news headlines over the next few months - and unlike nearly all politicians nowadays, in a positive way. A true rock star in Demarcia, 2023"
The campaign hasn't yet begun, yet politicians have evidently already begun with their appeals to voters in next month's election. Stick with the Inquirer as the weeks before the official campaign unfold.
