GeorgeChambers, the Leader of the Social Democratic Party, has been elected President of teh Republic of Demarcia, scoring a landslide victory against TylerHarris, the Demarcian National Party's leader, in the election of a lifetime.
TylerHarris immediately conceded defeat, saying that "it was a long shot and we did everything we could", and celebrated the fact that the DNP is back in Parliament. He congratulated GeorgeChambers, of whom he is sure will be "an amazing leader for Demarcia".
GeorgeChambers also issued a statement of his own, provided to the Demarcian Inquirer.
"Thank you very much people of Demarcia!
Exactly a year ago, I first witnessed an election here ever since I became a citizen and joined SDP in March 2020. And now I am standing in front of all of you, as the president. I am really grateful to be here, especially when the duty is to serve all of you. With all equality and democracy. All of us from the SDP will continue to nourish this precious country in all the way of a social democrat way.
I would also like to commend the DNP and Green leaders as they fought in all means, fair and square. And has proven that this country is worth fighting for.
We will work in all progress as we always do We will serve one another as if there are no colors and party that divides us. Amendments to certain Acts will be on work, and new Acts itself will be also on works. Same with our infrastructure upgrades and extensions. We will keep Demarcia alive and restore the glories of yesterday.
Again, thank you for trusting me and the Social Democratic Party once again! Long live Demarcia! Long live the SDP!"
The DNP's deputy leader, Immortal, also weighed in on the election results and stated that, although they are "disappointed to have lost the election", he "would like to express [his] congratulations nonetheless to GeorgeChambers" on his becoming President-elect of Demarcia. He also said that the DNP will "provide an effective opposition in Parliament".
More congratulations are pouring in from across the political world. Brandin, the Director of the Government Protection Service, too has congratulated President-elect GeorgeChambers on his victory. Jeskia, the current Minister of Environment, congratulated him and commented he might have difficulty forming his Cabinet.
GeorgeChambers won 11 votes (73.33%), as opposed to TylerHarris's 4 votes (26.67%). The turnout was 11.9% (15 votes), up 1 vote from the first round.
