The Demarcian National Party has surpassed the Social Democratic Party in terms of membership numbers according to the latest statistics published by the Minister of Interior for the month of July.

The Demarcian National Party now has 32 members, as opposed to the Social Democratic Party which has 31 members. The DNP's surge in membership numbers might be a result of the party's realignment in a more conservative direction.

Asked whether he is worried for the SDP's prospects in the crucial upcoming elections, a spokesman for the SDP has said that he "is not worried, and expects a comfortable Social Democratic victory in the next elections because they know we are the party of progress, stability and responsible governance, in contrast to the DNP, which is a party with nothing good to offer to the people".

The DNP released its official plan for the August elections here. In their plan, the DNP promises a wide range of reforms scaling back the policies achieved by the Social Democrats in their near uninterrupted year and a half in power. The most notable among the policies proposed are the privatisation of Gusken, abolition of the Consumer Protection Bureau and removal of codetermination that had just been passed last month.

The Social Democrats are preparing to go on the attack against the DNP's plan. Inside sources say that the party in the days ahead will hammer the DNP's "neoliberal agenda" and expose it as "hostile to workers and ordinary Demarcians" and "threatening their livelihoods".
