MikeBodwin and his Civic Unity Party have issued a statement condemning the move by Penstubal, JeskiaWeathers and Examed who, in defiance of their Social Democratic Party following its parliamentary primary, formed the Social Democratic Electoral Action in order to contest the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections.
MikeBodwin condemned what he called the "traitorous actions of those who cannot accept legitimate results". In a statement on behalf of his party, he said that the CUP is "the only truly democratic political party in Demarcia, where results of leadership elections and parliamentary primaries are accepted by the full membership".
Furthermore, he said that, in his party, it would be "unthinkable for a group of members who lost the parliamentary primary to quickly form their own quasi-party in a desperate attempt to get into Parliament", denouncing also the SDP rebels' opposition to the SDP leader MikeHawk's presidential candidacy, noting that such behavior is grounds for expulsion in the CUP.
The CUP leader announced that changes would be instituted in the party and that they would "forbid contesting a parliamentary election as part of another party's electoral list" and punish it with expulsion, as well as a ban on being accepted back into the CUP for a while.
Penstubal and MikeBodwin got into a very public spat shortly after, with Penstubal declaring that the "chickens have come home to roost".
"The two folks [MikeBodwin and MikeHawk] who, together with Vincent_Wolff, overthrew JeskiaWeathers and made her presidency a nightmare, are now complaining about people supposedly being traitorous", said Penstubal, still the SDP Secretary. "My friends, what's traitorous is to challenge, bring down, impeach, demonize and 'cancel' a legitimately elected president who won 75% of the vote in one of the greatest landslides we have ever seen in the history of our nation! That's what's traitorous."
Furthermore, Penstubal said that the plans of the SoDEA are to contest only one election in order to get into Parliament if the people so choose. He vowed that the party would do its best to "fight against a pro-nuclear, pro-Bodwinist, authoritarian Social Democratic Party. Our list is precisely an effort to ensure democracy within the Social Democratic Party".
